Reinventing individual mobility.

In the past, a vehicle was the classic symbol of personal freedom. Owning a vehicle meant being independent and mobile – at any time. This fact has not changed, but the world we live in has. There are people who now see a vehicle as a burden.

Volvo Cars is committed to bringing back that feeling of freedom and enrichment.
With the advent of autonomous driving technology, we see new opportunities to further advance traffic safety by taking human mistakes out of the equation. Further into the future, autonomy offers huge promise to revolutionize the way we travel, and it could radically change how we use our cars, where we work and where we live.

Simon Krappl

Director Marketing Communication, Volvo Car Switzerland AG, Zurich, Switzerland

Volvo has one of the most ambitious climate plans in the car industry. We aim to reduce our CO2 emissions per car by 40% between now and 2025, a first tangible step towards our long-term goal of becoming climate neutral by 2040. We realize that electrification alone is not enough, we will also tackle carbon emissions in our manufacturing network, our wider operations, our supply chain and through our approach to recycling and reuse of materials.

Consumers around the globe are rethinking traditional car ownership. Instead of buying and owning a car, some drivers prefer to have temporary access to a car whenever they want it. Others like to subscribe to a car the way they already subscribe to music, films and smartphones. We will expand our business with new ways of offering people access to mobility.

Session 1

Autonomous Driving

Imagine a world in which you travel long distances without the need for airports. What if you could take your own first-class private cabin that picks you up at home and takes you from door to door? And where would you live if you could commute each workday in an autonomous driving, connected, comfortable, mobile office space?  In a not too distant future, fully autonomous vehicles will be the answer to new personal mobility needs. They will have an impact on the way we live our life, the way we travel and the way we plan and build cities from the ground up.

Session 2

Sharing Economy

Sharing Economy is no longer a buzzword. Solutions and businesses based on the idea of shared resources and services are popping up all around. Will digitalized applications change the game of mobility, erase the concept of owning a vehicle and foster collectively used services?

Session 3

Solving the challenge of a clean, green mobility

Individual mobility is one of the global main leverages for a more sustainable and climate-friendly society. Is there a silver bullet to achieve the goal of green mobility in the future? Spoiler: No! But, today solutions and approaches are many fold. Where are the low-hanging fruits? Which technical and behavioral solutions need more time before contributing to a decarbonized society? And, finally, will it be less or even more fun in getting from A to B in the future?

Session 4

Technology & Innovation for Future Mobility

The automotive world is undergoing radical change. Future mobility is electric, autonomous and will offer customized, on-demand mobility solutions. New technologies and innovation are needed to drive this change. But to what extent? Will future, society-changing innovations be carried out by a few large international companies only? Or are modern consumers aware that they can influence change? Ultimately it boils down to one major question: will new technologies make our lives better, easier and more sustainable?
